Objectives & Strategies

Building a strong social media presence and expanding the team's reach

Building a solid social media presence is essential for any college football team to expand its reach and engage with its fans. Here are a few tips and examples of how to do this successfully:

Establish a consistent social media presence: It is important to have a presence on all the major social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, etc.). Post regularly and use all available features of each platform to engage with your fans, such as polls, Q&As, and behind-the-scenes content.

Use content to engage with fans: Use content to engage with fans, such as game highlights, player interviews, team stories, and other content related to the team. This content should be varied to keep fans engaged and interested.

College football programs engage with their fans and followers on social media in various ways. From hosting virtual watch parties to sharing updates about their teams, college football programs leverage social media to create an interactive fan experience. Common types of content used by college football programs on social media include:

  • Team highlights and updates: Sharing videos, highlights, and updates about the team and its players is a great way to engage fans and build excitement for upcoming games.

  • Player Q&As: Fans love to get to know their favorite players, and college football programs can leverage social media to host Q&A sessions with players and coaches.

  • Behind-the-scenes content: Fans love getting a peek into the inner workings of their favorite teams. Showcasing what goes on behind the scenes, like team practices, can be a great way to engage fans.

  • Ask the fans: Asking fans and followers to share their game-day rituals or favorite team memories can create a sense of community and connection.

  • Contests and giveaways: Who doesn't love a chance to win something? Hosting contests and giveaways on social media can help to generate more followers and engagement.

By leveraging various content types, college football programs can create an engaging social media presence that fosters a connection with their fans.

Utilize influencers: Utilize influencers to spread the word about your team and build an even bigger presence. Influencers have a large following and can reach more people than you would.

Here are five ideas for using influencers:

  • Have the influencers share a behind-the-scenes look at the team's practices and locker rooms.

  • Have the influencers share content from the team's official social media accounts.

  • Invite influencers to attend special events and have them share photos and videos with their followers.

  • Have influencers attend games and share their experiences with their followers.

  • Have influencers create original content around the team's successes, upcoming events, and more.

Some great examples of college football teams that have successfully built a solid social media presence are the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, Clemson Tigers, and Ohio State Buckeyes. All three teams have a strong presence on major social media platforms and post regularly to keep fans engaged. They also use influencers to spread the word about their teams and update their followers on their successes.
